BK Plus Europe is excited to embark on a major regional study funded by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, examining how decentralization has shaped democratic resilience across Africa. This research will dive deep into Benin 🇧🇯, Burkina Faso 🇧🇫, Ghana 🇬🇭, Kenya 🇰🇪, and Zambia 🇿🇲, exploring the role of local governance in strengthening institutions, civic engagement, and policy-making.

Over the last three decades, decentralization has been a key reform across the continent—shifting power, improving service delivery, and shaping democracy from the ground up. But how effective has it really been? What lessons can we learn? Through field research, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement, this study will:
