Exciting news from BK Plus Europe team! On Friday, 28th April, we successfully held the online kick-off meeting for our new project implemented under Erasmus+ KA2 Small Scale Cooperation Partnerships in the field of VET, titled “Web Accessibility through VET” (WEAVE). We are honored to be working with our esteemed partners Inercia Digital and JOIST on this transformative initiative.

WEAVE aims to increase digital inclusion by promoting web accessibility, in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the European Union’s commitment to inclusion. Our project will help bridge the digital divide and ensure that everyone, regardless of disability, can fully engage with the online environment.

During the kick-off meeting, we introduced our partners and discussed the financial, administrative, and technical aspects of the project. We also covered our objectives, which include:

  1. Equipping post-secondary VET providers with resources on accessible web design
  2. Encouraging the inclusion of people with disabilities online
  3. Enriching the professional competencies and employment prospects of web developers
  4. Increasing stakeholders’ readiness for the implementation of the European Accessibility Act (EAA)

By the end of the project, we aim to achieve:

  1. Identification and analysis of best practices meeting the EAA functional performance criteria
  2. Creation of an innovative VET Toolkit on Web Accessibility
  3. Training of post-secondary VET educators and students
  4. Information sharing on EU initiatives on web accessibility for stakeholders
  5. Hosting a hybrid multiplier event

The WEAVE project is designed according to the pillars of Shaping Europe’s Digital Europe strategy, the Web Accessibility Directive (EU) 2016/2102, and the European Accessibility Act (EAA) (Directive (EU) 2019/882).

We are excited to embark on this journey to make the internet a more inclusive space for all. Stay tuned for updates on our progress!
